UGA Outdoor Recreation Equipment Rental Center
It is the goal of the Outdoor Recreation Center (ORC) to provide the university community with the necessary equipment and resource material to enjoy a comfortable and safe adventure in the outdoors, including camping, backpacking, kayaking, snorkeling and climbing. Through the rental program, the center strives to provide the latest in adventure equipment at reasonable fees. Detailed information about the Georgia Outdoor Recreation Program (GORP) activities and outdoor recreation information about Georgia is provided in the ORC. Books, maps, brochures, magazines and videos are available for check out during center hours to assist participants in planning their next adventure. Camping accessories are available for retail sale. Location: lower level -- 144 Ramsey Student Center for Physical Activities Telephone: 706-542-GORP (4677) SUMMER HOURS OF OPERATION: May 13 – July 30: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 2pm – 6pm, Closed Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday Closures and Special Rental Deals - - Closed May 26 (Memorial Day) – Free day Closed July 4 (Independence Day) – Free day Closed July 31 – Aug 17 for semester break – Ten day charge (eight free days) Parking for Equipment Loading and Unloading: Renters are responsible for picking up /returning equipment during ORC scheduled hours of operation. As there are no designated spaces for long term ORC parking, renters must call the ORC to arrange large equipment (canoe, kayak, bulky equipment) pick-up / return in order to keep time to a minimum. Special arrangements for boating equipment pickup/return in the back lot of Ramsey are possible. A pay lot adjacent to the East Campus Parking Deck is available for a nominal fee. The ORC is not responsible for any parking citation received by renters. Rental Policies: 1. Renters must present proper UGA identification, regardless of university status (student, faculty, staff or alumni). 2. The rental fee may be paid by cash, check, or Bulldawg Bucks. No credit cards. 3. Reservations may be made in person or over the phone during ORC hours with a UGA ID number. 4. Rental fees need not be paid at the time of reservation, but must be paid in full when picked up. 5. Cancellations must be made by 3pm on the first reserved date to avoid rental charges. 6. Renter will be charged a repair fee if equipment is returned damaged. If, upon inspection, damages are discovered which the renter did not claim at the time of rental, additional charges will be assessed. 7. Weekend rentals may be picked up on Thursday at no additional charge. 8. Late return charges: A $1.00 per item, per day late fee is charged in addition to the daily rental fee. Late days accrue only on days when the ORC is in operation and equipment is not returned. Any renter with an outstanding balance due will have their records flagged until payment is made. 9. Absolutely no smoking in ORC tents. There is a $5 charge for each burn hole. 10. Renter will be charged current replacement costs for any equipment lost or returned with such extensive damage as to warrant replacement. 11. A $5 cleaning fee will be assessed for equipment returned wet or dirty (i.e. tents and stoves). Excessive cleaning may require additional fees. 12. No equipment will be considered returned until the renter returns it to the ORC personnel during ORC hours. 13. Upon return all tents will receive a full set up inspection. 14.
