Class Information

 Pre-registration is required for all classes and closes 3 business days before the class is scheduled to begin.  To register, select the "register now" tab at the bottom of this page or visit the cashier's window during normal business hours.  

 

Only current full-time, fees-paid students are eligible to register for safety programs at the student price. Part-time students, student dependents, and non-fees paid students must pay the faculty/staff price.

 


 

American Red Cross Lifeguarding 

Description: This course is designed to teach skills and knowledge to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services take over. This class includes, Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR/AED. Candidates MUST pass a prerequisite swimming skill evaluation. Certification is current for 2 years. Course Length: 25 hours; 30 minutes. Participants MUST attend all class dates.

 

Prerequisite Swimming Skills Evaluation

  • 300-yard continuous swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both
  • Tread water using legs only for 2 minutes without support or stopping
  • Within 1 minute and 40 seconds, swim 20 yards, surface dive to 7 - 10 feet and retrieve a 10lb brick. Return to surface and swim back to starting point with both hands holding brick and keeping face at the surface. Exit the water without using ladder or steps.

 Dates: May 11, 13, 15, 18, 20 -  4-9pm all dates

Review: American Red Cross Lifeguarding 

Description: This course is designed as a quick way to renew your lifeguard training. Brief review of skills will be offered, but this course is not designed to teach or re-teach skills. Participants must pass the precourse swim exam, the skills check and written exams to obtain certifications. The class includes certifications in CPRO w/AED, First Aid, and Lifeguard Training. The course incorporates a blended learning format with online training sessions, classroom skills and water rescue activities. Certification is current for 2 years. Course Length: 7 hours 

*The Red Cross allows currently certified Lifeguards and those who have expired by no more than 30 days to recertify. If your certification has expired by more than 30 days you must take the full course.

CPR/AED/First Aid for Professional Rescuer

Description: The American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers & Health Care Providers course is designed to teach those with a duty to act (professional rescuers and health care providers) the knowledge and skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies until more advanced medical personnel take over. This includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim experiencing cardiac arrest.

EMT/Paramedics
Nurses
Physical Therapists
Dentists/Dental Assistants
Physicians/Physicians Assistants

Dates:

  • Saturday June 13 - 10am-5pm
  • Saturday July 18 - 10am-5pm
  • Saturday August 8 - 10am-5pm

Course Price: $50 student/faculty/staff/dependent     $60 alumni

 


 

Review: CPR/AED/First Aid for Professional Rescuers 

Description:The review course provides some instructionfor those who have a current or recently expired certification. Instruction is provided as a review before particiants are tested. To be eligible to participate in a review course, a participant must possess a certificate in the same course that is current or expired for no more than 30 days. Upon successful completion of the review course, the participant receives a certificate that is valid for 2 years from date of completion of the review course.

Dates:

  • Sunday June 14 - 2-6pm
  • Sunday July 19 - 2-6pm
  • Sunday August 9 - 2-6pm

Course Price: $50 student/faculty/staff/dependent     $60 alumni

 


 

Challenge: CPR/AED/First Aid for Professional Rescuers

Description: Challenges provide individual testing for participants for wish to be recertified in either Adult & Pediatric CPR/AED, and/or CPR/AED/First Aid for the Professional Rescuer. Instructors will not provide review or instruction. Participants must successfully complete the practical skills and pass the written test(s) with a minimum score of 80 percent. A participant who does not pass the challenge will be referred back to the appropriate course.

  • Saturday June 13 - 4pm-5pm
  • Saturday July 18 - 4pm-5pm
  • Saturday August 8 - 4pm-5pm

 Course Price: $40 student/faculty/staff/dependent     $50 alumni

 

 

Adult & Pediatric CPR/AED with First Aid

Description: The American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED program helps participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. The courses in this program teach skills that participants need to know to give immediate care to a suddenly injured or ill person until more advanced medical personnel arrive and take over.

Dates:

  • Wednesday June 17 - 4-9pm
  • Tuesday July 21 - 4-9pm
  • Monday August 10 - 4-9pm

Course Price: $55 student/faculty/staff/dependent     $65 alumni

 Participants wishing to be certified in CPR have two options: CPR for the Professional Rescuer or Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED
First Aid Certification is included in all CPR classes. 

Participants may also choose to register for a full course, review course, or challenge
